West Midlands Cyber

The community-funded cyber cluster for the West Midlands

Built by the community. For the growth of the community.

We bring together cyber businesses, practitioners, universities, investors, buyers, public bodies and community groups from across the region, to make the West Midlands cyber economy more connected, more visible and better able to support companies from startup through to scale.

The cluster we wish we had

Starting and scaling a cyber business is difficult. Founders need more than occasional events or short-term programmes. They need trusted introductions, customers, procurement opportunities, experienced mentors, talented people, access to capital and a community that understands what it takes to grow.

The West Midlands Cyber Cluster has been created by people who have faced those challenges themselves. We are building the support structure we wish had existed when we started.

The region does not lack cyber activity. It already contains specialist SMEs, consultancies, universities, workforce programmes and active practitioner communities. The challenge is fragmentation: businesses can form and participate, but too few progress into nationally significant scale-ups.

A community investing in itself

The Cluster is supported by the organisations and people that participate in it. Income is reinvested into activity that benefits the wider community: founder support, skills pathways, regional promotion, events, market access and investment readiness.

  • Community memberships
  • Business memberships
  • Corporate sponsorship
  • Programme partnerships
  • Events and training
  • Voluntary contributions
  • Commercial partnerships
  • Income generated through the West Midlands Cyber Hub

We work with government, public bodies and institutional partners, but we are not dependent on a single controlling institution.

Promoting the region

Giving the West Midlands cyber sector a stronger collective identity and greater national visibility.

Strengthening industrial resilience

Supporting trusted regional capability that helps businesses and supply chains become more resilient.

The company directory

Find cyber capability in the West Midlands

The directory helps buyers, partners, investors and members of the community identify organisations operating across the West Midlands cyber economy.

Our distinctive role. Other UK regions have built cyber identities around intelligence, financial services or enterprise technology. The West Midlands has a different opportunity: to become the UK centre for applied industrial cyber resilience and supply-chain security.

  • Operational technology security
  • Industrial control systems
  • Supply-chain assurance
  • Third-party cyber risk
  • Incident readiness
  • Secure manufacturing
  • Connected transport and logistics

Evidence for the growth of the regional cyber economy

The Cluster publishes research, data, strategic analysis and policy material on the West Midlands cyber ecosystem. Strategic reports live here rather than on the Hub site, so there is one authoritative source.

Featured publication

Cyber in the West Midlands

The regional strategic review examining the conditions required for the West Midlands to develop a nationally significant cyber business cluster.

Cyber events across the West Midlands

A regional calendar bringing together events from the Cluster, the Hub, community groups, universities and partners. Hub-delivered events are labelled as such.

To be confirmed before launch

The regional calendar is being populated ahead of launch. Partner and community organisations can submit events for inclusion. Events delivered at or by the West Midlands Cyber Hub will be labelled so visitors can tell Hub activity from wider regional activity.

The Cluster and the Hub

The West Midlands Cyber Cluster represents the wider community, capability and economic ambition of the region. The West Midlands Cyber Hub provides the physical space, coordination platform and delivery environment through which much of that ambition becomes practical activity.

Help build the region's cyber future

Joining means more than subscribing to updates. It means contributing to a shared regional effort to help businesses grow, create jobs, improve resilience and strengthen the West Midlands cyber identity.

The Cluster belongs to the community that builds it.
